Work Opportunities

  • On-Campus Employment: International students can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week while school is in session and full-time during holidays and breaks. Examples of on-campus jobs include working at the library, bookstore, cafeteria, or as a research assistant.
  • Curricular Practical Training (CPT): CPT allows international students to participate in paid or unpaid internships that are directly related to their field of study. CPT requires prior authorization from the university’s designated school official (DSO).
  • Optional Practical Training (OPT): OPT allows international students to work in the USA for up to 12 months after graduation in a job that is directly related to their field of study. OPT requires prior authorization from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
  • Optional Practical Training Extension (OPT STEM): OPT STEM allows international students who have graduated with a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) to extend their OPT for an additional 24 months. OPT STEM also requires prior authorization from the USCIS.

After graduation

The maximum length allowed for eligible international students under the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program is 3 years, depending on their study program.
